# Production Batches

# Understanding Batches

A batch represents a single production run of a beer, tracking the entire process from brew day through packaging. Each batch is linked to a Beer record, which contains the core information about the beer (name, style, etc.). Multiple batches can be linked to the same beer over time.

# Key Concepts

  • Batch: Contains production-specific information (dates, volumes, tanks, etc.)
  • Beer: Contains product-specific information (name, style, ABV, etc.)
  • Events: Production activities (BRW, XFR, PKG) that appear on calendars

# Creating and Viewing Batches

# Create a New Batch

There are two ways to create a batch:

  1. From Calendar view:
    • Click any date number
    • Select "New Batch" from the popup menu
  2. From Batches table view:
    • Navigate to Production → Batches
    • Click "New Batch" button

# View Batch Details

Access batch information from any of these locations:

  • Calendar view: Click on any batch event
  • Agenda view: Click on any batch event
  • Cellar view: Click on an occupied tank
  • Batches table: Click on any batch row

# Production Planning

# Scheduling Production

When creating or editing a batch:

  1. Set the brew date(s)
    • Appears as "BRW" on calendar
    • Can span multiple days for double batches
  2. Assign the fermentation tank
    • Only shows tanks with sufficient capacity
    • Updates tank status automatically
  3. Schedule brite transfer (if applicable)
    • Appears as "XFR" on calendar
    • Updates tank occupancy automatically
  4. Plan packaging dates
    • Appears as "PKG" on calendar
    • Can schedule multiple packaging runs

# Managing Package Targets

Package targets help align production and sales teams on expected yields:

  1. Open the batch record
  2. Navigate to the packaging section
  3. Click "ADD TARGET"
  4. For each target, specify:
    • Package format (keg size or package type)
    • Sales channel (distributor, taproom, etc.)
    • Target quantity
    • Beer (if multiple beers from one batch)

# Recording Production

# Packaging Logs

Record actual packaging runs as they happen:

  1. Open the batch record
  2. Go to the packaging section
  3. Click "ADD PACKAGE" under Keg & Package Logs
  4. Enter:
    • Fill date
    • Package format
    • Quantity filled

# Barrel Racking

For barrel-aged beers:

  1. Open the batch record
  2. Go to the packaging section
  3. Click "ADD BARREL" under Racking Logs
  4. Specify:
    • Select barrel from inventory
    • Fill date
    • Volume transferred

Note: Barrels must be pre-registered in the Barrels inventory section before they can be used in racking logs.

# Best Practices

  • Schedule all known dates when creating the batch
  • Update schedules promptly if dates change
  • Set package targets early to help with materials planning
  • Record packaging volumes daily for accurate inventory
  • Check that total packaged volume matches expected yield
